Evaluation

In this project we where asked to create a short film that was 1-2 minutes long.

We did some research on other short films and the directors who created them for example Ashes made by Sophie Black who used a dark and creepy way of directing her film with different angles and a steady camera, the other one we was Lemonade made by Erin Montgomery which had a shaky camera and was a bit brighter. We also looked at diegetic ( sound that you can see like hitting something hearing a thud) and non diegetic sound (when you here background music and the origin is unknown.) We also learnt some new terminology like Open and closed endings. (open endings where the story has no ending and could carry on, closed ending when the you can't do anymore the film has ended with the main character dead making it impossible to create another one.

With the pre production work we had to all individually come up with an Idea which we could suggest to our group, after  thinking we where put into groups and told each other our ideas, all the ideas of my group where similar so we just combined them together and made our film story , We then went on to fill out all the paper work necessary as well as the Camera booking for taking the camera out of college to do filming.

The film is based around mental health and how it can affect people, the secret in this film is that people hide their problems when they should be shared so it doesn't get worse, Me and Leah started the filming during class we went around the campus and took shoots in different spaces using different angles and using the storyboard to help guide us. After that we arranged for the rest of the group (Leah,Taylor and Sherri) to come to my house to do a little filming we filmed one scene and then the rest was completed at Leah's house due to time constraints.

The next task was to record the voice over and download the backing track, The Voice recording was done in the sound both each one off us had a go at saying the opening and closing script which Taylor wrote. We decided that Leah's voice over was  the best for the opening, but Taylor's voice over was the best for the closing scene. The backing track was My Immortal Acoustic Version by Evanescene.

For the editing we used Dip to black, cross dissolve and  Constant gain for smoother transition between video footage and audio.

The problems we had where that we were running short with time and was having to rush a bit to get the final edit done, Filming was also a problem because of filming location changing due to availability and day light.
